Job Description:
We are currently hiring a R&D Sensory Scientist in Boston,
MA.*A Hybrid position at Boston Beer requires that our coworkers
reside within commuting distance to be onsite 3 days a week
(Tuesday - Thursday).The Sensory Scientist I will collect
information about the attributes that amplify the consumer's love
of profiles, and use this information to guide the development of
high-quality, enjoyable products. This involves excellent execution
of consumer testing and a keen understanding of panel training. The
person will support new product development with organoleptic
insights and contribute to reporting consumer data. Scientific
focus, attention to detail, prioritization, and project management
skills are essential.What You'll Brew:
- Conduct consumer testing using sensory methods, tools, and
statistical evaluation to guide R&D projects.
- Analyze and interpret sensory data, including generating
statistical results and figures.
- Synthesize key sensory learnings and communicate them to
stakeholders.
- Collaborate with sensory professionals to design, build, and
refine consumer testing tools.
- Develop and lead sensory panels, including assessing panel
sensitivity, tracking performance, providing feedback, screening
new panelists, and maintaining the panelist database.
- Coordinate the validation and transition of products from
R&D to Production, including creating profiles and training
programs.
- Conduct events and tests to refresh panels and introduce new
products.
- Assess and validate new products.
- Stay current with sensory evaluation literature and best
practices.
- Promote high product quality within a professional
environment.What Ingredients You'll Bring:Minimum
Qualifications:
- MS Degree in Sensory Science, Food Science, Statistics,
Psychology, or related field.
- OR BS Degree with 3 years of experience.
- At least 2 years of sensory analysis experience (graduate
school counts).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Report writing experience.
- Travel up to 10%.Preferred Qualifications:
- Panel training experience.
- Experience conducting consumer testing.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis software (xlstat a
plus).Skills:
- Exceptional communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- High ownership and professionalism.
- Knowledge of sensory software (e.g., Compusense, Red Jade,
SIMS).Level: 7Salary range: $59,500 - $106,000, dependent on
experience, skillset, and location. Includes potential annual
bonus, and possibly a car allowance for certain sales roles.Some
