I further attest that all information I submit in my employment application is true to the best of my knowledge.Job DescriptionAbout the role:This role will drive the discovery of novel therapeutics within the Rare Diseases Drug Discovery Unit (RD DDU), focusing primarily on rare hematological disorders (non-oncology). - This scientist will advise multiple programs as a scientific expert, and independently design and implement extensive preclinical research projects as a means to execute on our vision to transform the lives of individuals burdened with disease.Join Takeda as a Senior Scientist, Rare Disease, based in Cambridge, MA.How you will contribute:ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Independently designs, develops and execute research assignments, contributing to multiple projects, acting as senior scientific consultant or as manager of a smaller, early staged matrix project team
  • Plays a leading scientific role on project team(s), setting high standards for rigor of thought
  • Provides scientific contributions which have significant impact on portfolio progress or development of technical capabilities, based on benchmarking to industry best-in-class
  • Acts as internal key opinion leader for his/her area of technical expertise
  • Supports or identifies BD opportunities to enhance project progression, or functional capability expansion, with clear application to specific portfolio needs
  • Continual development of scientific expertise, particularly through external interactions, linked to specific deliverables
  • Contributes to development and implementation of scientific strategy, through tangible deliverables; challenges dogmas and internal 'blind spots'; actively pressure-tests ideas cross-functionally and via external network
  • Establishes a strong external reputation, through scientific publication and presentationMinimum Requirements/Qualifications:
    • PhD degree in a scientific discipline with 3+ years experience, or MS with 9+ years experience, or BS with 11+ years experience.
    • The successful candidate will have passion for early drug discovery, along with the following attributes:
    • A strong background in sickle cell disease and related hematological disorders.
    • Experience in small molecule discovery, with additional experience in biologics and/or gene therapy discovery a plus.
    • An extensive understanding of the biological mechanisms that drive sickle cell disease pathology, as well as pathways interrogated to reverse this (e.g. fetal hemoglobin induction).
    • Strong hands-on experience with preclinical models for sickle cell disease, specifically in differentiating immortalized erthroid cells (e.g. HUDEP2 cells) and primary CD34 cells, with an ability to treat these pharmacologically and with knockdown approaches.
    • Hands on experience in delivering novel therapeutics from idea to early clinical development a plus.
    • The ability to contribute to cross-functional teams, applying good interpersonal skills and an attitude of accountability and ownership.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Includes writing, reviewing, and editing scientific documents, as well as preparing and delivering scientific presentations.
    • Demonstrate the capability to inspire and motivate others and build authentic relationships.
    • Demonstrate energy, drive and flexibility in order to effectively participate in cross functional teams in a matrix organizational structure.
    • Strong analytical skills, especially with regard to understanding, interpreting and executing scientific research
    • Strong organization skills with a track record of timely completion of project deliverables on tight deadlines are required
    • An in-depth understanding of clinical needs as it relates to guiding early programs towards successful translation to therapeutics that will deliver meaningful benefit to patients
    • Manage across multiple projects under minimal supervision.
    • Contribute specific experimental designs and test conditions based on knowledge gained through prior hands-on experience and/or review of relevant technical literature.
    • Ability to manage and communicate effectively with research vendors including negotiating sponsored research agreements/contracts, analyzing scope of work, facilitating the resolution of actions and issues.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with key academic opinion leaders, clinical investigators, and external researchers.What Takeda can offer you:
