Director of Technical Operations located in Billerica, MA. We are
looking for an experienced and motivated candidate to join our
Technical Operations team. This position is a hands-on people
leadership role and requires a varied skill set with a natural
aptitude for continuous improvement. The person in this role will
lead a team with enhanced technical acumen and process knowledge.
This role will provide the manufacturing and QC teams with support
as a technical resource and will develop his/her direct reports to
aid with complex tasks and supplement routine operations. The
Director, Technical Operations will ensure the robustness of
manufacturing processes and equipment by driving continuous
improvements and applying best practices across manufacturing and
QC operations. What You'll Do:
- Build and develop a high-performing technical team ensuring the
right skills are added at the appropriate time during periods of
rapid growth
- Inspire, grow, retain and engage employees using people centric
leadership tools.
- Acquire and maintain a clear understanding of the technologies
utilized in upstream, downstream, and QC operations. Deploy best
practices to support achievement of quality, cost, and delivery
objectives.
- Lead cross functional teams in the continuous improvement and
optimization of in-process and product release QC test methods and
criteria, applying strategies for test-panels, primaries,
calibrators, and controls to ensure lot-to-lot precision of ELISA
kits.
- Apply statistical rationale in setting process specifications
that balance product requirements and process capability.
- Support process transfer of new products from research and
development by representing manufacturing/QC on new product
development teams.
- Develop and train team on best practices in assay
troubleshooting, process improvement, design transfer, FMEA, and
CAPA
- Sustain ongoing manufacturing operations. Perform root cause
analysis for process/equipment failures, support product quality
impact assessments and implement corrective and preventative
actions
- Document experimental and failure investigation data, provide
interpretation of the data for presentation for analysis
- Lead development of dashboards and other data analytics tools
to proactively track and trend key critical to quality indicators.
Report metrics to technical teams and upper management. Facilitate
root cause analysis and ideation of the improvement opportunities
from the metric discussions
- Develop strong working relationships with other functions and
work collaboratively within the organization to achieve over all
company goals and directives
- Provide direction and leadership to resolve on going quality
related issues and make recommendations based on data to support
changes to process What We'll Expect From You:
- Attract, hire, and develop a high performing technical
operations team with a culture of continuous improvement
- Develop mid and long-term strategies to ensure world-class
systems and processes to support reagent demands for on market
products, including appropriate scale and quality for
diagnostics
- Apply in-depth knowledge of industry best practices to ensure
reliability of immunoassay performance to drive execution and make
measurable improvements to manufacturing and QC processes
- Excellent commercial and financial awareness.
- Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally and influence
colleagues and direct reports in support of company objectives and
improved outcomes for customers
- Individuals applying for this position must be self-starters,
strategic thinkers, action driven, flexible in changing direction
and methods, thrive in a fast-paced environment, excel at managing
multiple priorities, succeed in communicating with all levels
within the organization and provide immediate contribution.
Education
- Candidates should have a mix of demonstrated technical
expertise as well as management experience. Ideally in business
environments with rapid growth. Overall experience such as:
- BS / BA in molecular biology, biochemistry, organic chemistry,
or engineering. 15+ years' experience in product development,
design transfer, and technical operations, including leadership
responsibility in technical operations. Experience in diagnostics
preferred.
- MS in chemistry/biology technology disciplines as above, with
10+ years experience
- PhD in chemistry/biology technology disciplines as above, with
8+ years experience
- Extensive assay troubleshooting experiences in a high volume
manufacturing setting is a must
- Experience in immunoassay development consider a significant
plus
- Experience in statistics, Design of Experiments, Lean Six Sigma
