Job Description:
MaineHealth and Maine Medical Center are seeking a Senior
Medical Director of Precision Medicine to lead the strategic and
operational development of MaineHealth’s Precision Medicine
program, guiding the clinical integration of genetic and genomic
services across the health system as well as development and
implementation of research and education efforts. This physician
leader will establish best-in-class clinical, educational, and
research frameworks that align with MaineHealth’s mission. The
Senior Medical Director will collaborate with the Genomics
Oversight Steering Committee (GOSC), clinical departments, and
academic partners to address workforce education gaps, improve
access to genomic testing, and design coordinated care and data
infrastructures. This role will also foster translational research,
industry partnerships, and targeted philanthropy to advance
MaineHealth’s position as a leader in precision medicine, ensuring
system-wide readiness for emerging genomic technologies and
standards of care. This is a 0.5 leadership position, and the
successful candidate may have an additional 0.5 FTE for clinical
efforts. This leadership position offers: - A team-based,

vision, and life/disability coverage Qualifications: - MD, DO, or
equivalent medical degree required. - Board certification in
Medical Genetics, Genomic Medicine, or a related specialty
required. - Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Maine
required. - Advanced training (fellowship or graduate-level) in
clinical genomics, molecular diagnostics, or precision medicine
preferred. - Minimum of 10–15 years of progressively responsible
experience in clinical genomics, precision medicine, or
translational research, including leadership in an academic medical
center, health system, or equivalent environment. - Demonstrated
success in implementing genomic testing programs, clinical
integration strategies, and/or population genomics initiatives. -
Academic Rank Associate Professor or Higher The Senior Medical
Director shall provide operational and administrative oversight for
Precision Medicine, including: - Provide operational leadership for
the Precision Medicine program, including planning, implementation,
evaluation, and ongoing management of program initiatives and
materials. - Support strategic planning and vision development for
Precision Medicine in collaboration with system leadership. -
Manage program administration and governance support, including
preparation of GOSC and workgroup meeting materials, agendas,
minutes, and follow-up action tracking. - Oversee program financial
operations, including budget development support, monthly
reconciliation, reporting, and coordination with Financial
Services. - Coordinate data collection, tracking, analysis, and
reporting to support program evaluation, quarterly reporting, and
annual program reporting. - Facilitate integration of Precision
Medicine initiatives across MaineHealth by working with department
leaders to develop workflows, infrastructure, and new initiatives.
- Lead internal and external communication, education, and
engagement efforts, including website updates, educational
materials, marketing initiatives, and promotion of a culture of
safety and regulatory compliance. Additional Skills: - Experience
working with clinical data systems, biorepositories, or informatics
infrastructures strongly desired. - Track record of scholarly
activity, grant funding, or translational research preferred. About
