Job Description Job Description Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Role Description The Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) is responsible for effective communications, call entry, and dispatching for all 911 emergency and non-emergency medical transportation requests. Operating within our 911 Emergency Communications Call Center, this unique telecommunicator position will not only act as a 911 operator, but also as a liaison between healthcare facilities and our medical transportation team to effectively communicate available resources and expected arrival times, schedule non-emergency medical transportations, and ensure timelines are being met or new arrival expectations are set. 911 Dispatcher Responsibilities Processing all emergency and non-emergency medical calls Rapidly gather relevant information Dispatch appropriate non-emergency and emergency medical transportation including ALS, BLS, and Wheelchair Van resources Review available resources and communicate expected arrival times with healthcare facilities Maintain communication and expectations with healthcare facilities Provide clear instructions to callers Utilize computer aided dispatch (CAD) systems 911 Dispatcher Job Requirements High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Knowledge of medical terminology preferred but not required Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills is a must Customer service experience in an office environment preferred Ability to work in a team setting Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask Detail oriented, punctual, and able to multitask effectively Experience in data entry and general operating knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred Multitask data entry 20-30 words per minute with active listening during call processing.
