Job Description:
The Sr. Director, Labor Relations is responsible for oversight
and management of all aspects of the labor relations portfolios
within the organization (US and Canada). Develops and implements
strategies to promote positive relations between management and
labor unions. Responsible for ongoing labor management resolutions,
collective bargaining and labor contract administration. Will
formulate labor and employment policy development and training.
Negotiates collective bargaining agreements, resolves disputes, and
ensures compliance with labor laws and regulations. Works closely
with HR and legal teams to address labor-related challenges and
promote a fair and equitable workplace for all employees.

Responsibilities
- Ensures Health and Safety is the number one goal by following
policies, processes and acting in a safe manner at all times.
- Collaborates with site management on handling labor relations
issues; Research, evaluate and mediate labor issues that may result
in unfair labor practices, arbitrations/mediations and labor
litigation; Recommend and implement appropriate actions in
accordance with Company policy and Collective Bargaining
Agreements.
- Build good working relationships with union leadership,
supervisors, line managers, business unit leaders and HR/Labor
staff.
- Communicate and ensure understanding of labor laws, regulations
and organizational policies and answer questions by managers and
employees as needed
- Act as sitting first chair in contract negotiations for all
labor contracts
- Obtain management concurrence and design short- and long-term
labor relations strategies and policies
- Prepare and conduct labor relations training programs and
provide mentor union awareness plans
- Represent the company's interests in claims and proceedings
involving union organizing drives.
- Develop tools and programs to understand and measure employee
engagement (qualitative and quantitative)
- Collaborates with management and HR teams to implement systemic
programs to improve employee engagement and positive retention
- Conducts needs assessment, develop training curriculum and
conduct training sessions to assist managers in preventing labor
relations issues
- Monitor and report highlights of labor relations trends,
developments, and events
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Labor Relations/ Human Resources/Related
field required
- Masters Degree/Juris Doctorate preferred
- 10+ Years of Labor Relations experience
- Ability to research, identify relevant information, and analyze
data to arrive at valid conclusions and support recommendations and
plans of action
- Excellent negotiation skills and ability to influence
others
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Exceptional analytical ability
- Strong execution abilities that drive results in a
collaborative environment
- Requires detailed knowledge of national, state or provincial,
and local government statues, regulations, and mandates applicable
to the assigned human resources functions;
- Personal computing skills, including Internet, excel
spreadsheets, and database management.
- Experience in labor relations and employment law, including
practical experience with the administrative agencies and courts
that regulate the employment environment.
- Knowledge of labor law history and current regulations
- Ability to travel up to 50%
