Job Description:
Job Description Job Description SCOPE OF WORK: Assists with
administering the Human Service, Addiction Counseling and Social
Sciences department through the development, implementation,
evaluation, and advancement of course curriculum and programs,
teaching effectiveness, student advisement, academic support
systems, and program promotion. This position reports to the
Department Chair of Human Service, Addiction Counseling, and Social
Sciences. ACCOUNTABILITIES: Provides instruction to students in the
Social Sciences, including a schedule that incorporates morning and
evening teaching assignments. Monitors and manages communications
with adjunct faculty to ensure departmental alignment and
instructional consistency. Assists with supervising and evaluating
all part-time department faculty and staff including proposing the
assigning of instructional assignments. Recruits, interviews, and
recommends candidates for faculty and staff appointments to the
Department Chair of Human Services, Addiction Counseling & Social
Sciences. Develops and implements professional development and
training plans for department faculty and staff, Assists with
department curriculum and program development; reviews and
coordinates textbook selection. Manages and participates in student
academic advising, including the review of student academic
progress and registration. Communicates and works with other
academic and non-academic departments on issues of mutual concern
such as general academic issues, library purchases, registration
and placement activities. Participate in meetings and activities of
academic leadership council activities. Monitors graduates in Human
Service, Addiction Counseling, and Social Sciences for the purpose
of compiling placement statistics. Builds and manages data for
programs. Participates in recruitment activities and other
non-teaching activities for the benefit and recognition of NHTI.
Maintains liaison with professional community including recruiting,
developing and advising the advisory committee, and responding to
professional development needs. Orders and maintains supplies and
equipment as needed. Serves on faculty and department, college, and
system committees and teams as required. Complies with College,
System, State and Federal rules and regulations. Other duties as
assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Master degree in
related social science discipline or related academic discipline.
Experience: Five years of professional experience in higher
education related to academics, teaching, and administrative work
License/Certification: Valid drivers’ license or access to
transportation. Recommended Work Traits: Through knowledge of
teaching methods, the use of instructional materials and the
organization of effective teaching. Knowledge of educational
standards and procedures. Ability to secure cooperation of
administration to originate and implement new programs, to improve
existing programs, and foster positive relationships in the
department and throughout the college. Ability to maintain
comprehensive records of the progress and development of the
individual student. Ability to work effectively with educators and
“business” and community people outside the college. Ability to
communicate tactfully and effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and as
a member of academic department/team. Ability to handle matters
with diplomacy and to maintain confidentiality, as appropriate.
Ability to exercise professional judgment and proper
decision-making. Must be willing to maintain an appearance
appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined
